Inside every lesson

Every lesson runs in the same four steps.

You always know where you are: read the rule, watch it worked, learn the traps, then practice. Finish a lesson and its square on your map fills in.

  1. 1

    The rule, in plain words

What the skill is, when the test uses it, and the one idea that makes it click.

  2. 2

    Worked examples

SAT-style questions solved step by step, with the reason each wrong answer is tempting.

  3. 3

    The traps that cost points

The mistakes students actually make on this skill, and how to spot them before you do.

  4. 4

    Practice, then check

Exam-style questions with full answers, plus Desmos checks you can run beside the lesson.

Worked example · Percentages

A store's monthly revenue was $4,000 in January. In February, revenue increased by 15% from January's amount. In March, revenue decreased by 10% from February's amount. What was the store's revenue in March?

  • A$3,600
  • B$4,140Correct
  • C$4,200
  • D$4,600

How the lesson solves it

  1. February: apply the 15% increase. 4000 × 1.15 = 4600
  2. March: apply the 10% decrease to February's revenue. 4600 × 0.90 = 4140

Why the other answers are wrong

  • A applies only the 10% decrease to January: 4000 × 0.90 = 3600
  • C adds the percents (+15% − 10% = +5%): 4000 × 1.05 = 4200
  • D stops after February's increase: 4000 × 1.15 = 4600

Desmos check

Type 4000 * 1.15 * 0.90 and Desmos returns 4140.

Successive percent changes multiply: 1.15 × 0.90, never 15% − 10%.

When you're stuck

Ask Nova. It asks you back.

Nova is Novark's AI tutor. Open it from any lesson and talk it through out loud or in chat. It asks questions that lead you to the step you missed, so the idea is yours when the test comes.

  • Talk it through by voice, or type if you prefer
  • Starts from the lesson you're on, so it knows the topic
  • Available whenever you study, including the night before
Example conversation

Why isn't it just 15% minus 10%, so 5% up?

Good question. The 10% comes off February's revenue, not January's. What was February's revenue?

$4,600. So 10% of that is $460…

Right, which leaves $4,140. Changes in a row multiply: 1.15 × 0.90 = 1.035, a 3.5% rise overall.

Questions

Before you start

Is it really free?

Yes. A free account opens 14 of the 50 SAT Math lessons in full and previews the rest. It also includes 2 hours a week of AI tutoring by chat and 15 minutes by voice. You don't need a card to sign up.

Is this for the digital SAT?

Yes. The course follows the College Board's published specifications for the digital SAT Math section: 4 domains and 19 skills, taught across 50 lessons.

Can I use a calculator on SAT Math?

Yes, on every Math question. The Bluebook testing app has the Desmos graphing calculator built in, and you can bring an approved calculator of your own. That's why Novark keeps Desmos beside every lesson, so you practice with the tool you'll have on test day.

How is this different from the free official practice tests?

Use both. Practice tests in Bluebook show you where you stand. Novark teaches the skills those tests measure, with worked examples, the common traps, and a tutor to ask when a step doesn't make sense.

What does Nova do?

Nova is an AI tutor. It talks problems through with you by voice or chat, asks questions to find the step you're missing, and can start from the lesson you're reading. Like any AI it can make mistakes, which is why every lesson also shows full worked solutions you can check against.

Are there real tutors too?

Yes, on paid plans. Starter includes 1 session a week with a human tutor, Premium 3, and Pro 8.

How much is Starter, and can I cancel?

Starter is $24 a month or $240 a year. Monthly plans start with a 7-day free trial, which needs a card. You can cancel at any time; refunds are covered in our Terms.

Can I use Novark outside the US?

Yes. Novark works anywhere you can get online, and prices are in US dollars.
